Follow my blog with Bloglovin In case you were wondering, my new coffee shop habit is still going strong. I went to my favorite local shop three times within four days last week. I've found I can focus so much better on writing when I am in a different environment so I'm going to keep going with it. Like I've said before, I really love an afternoon coffee or tea so the whole experience is just a nice treat that also keeps me productive. Basically what I'm saying is hanging out at coffee shops is just an all around good idea for me. Not to mention the one I go to sells Askinosie chocolate which is heaven on earth.
Another place I visited this week was Trader Joe's. I've said it before and I will say it again, I love Trader Joe's. My mom and I went on a mini road trip to the nearest location and stocked up on all of our favorite things. We got way more then I have pictured but I figured I would share just a few of the things that were making me especially giddy. First, I was super excited to see that they were selling fresh figs. I love me some fresh figs, but I can't seem to find them anywhere! Don't worry, I will have zero problem going through the two pounds that I bought and I can guarantee I will be sad for a while after they are gone. Try some if you haven't, they are weird and good.
We also bought some dried ginger which I am seriously obsessed with. It is so good. I like having a few pieces of it after meals, almost like a palate cleanser. Ginger is supposed to be good for digestion so eating it multiple times a day might be a really good idea. Can't say I've noticed any amazing effects besides the fact that I'm slightly addicted. I'm actually eating some right now. I also picked up a bag of the dried coconut for the first time. It's good, but not my absolute favorite coconut product.
We also bought chocolate covered espresso beans, sea salt (put that on everything!), coconut oil spray, and coconut oil. Which I also put on everything. Seriously. Can you see I have a coconut obsession? If I had to pick a favorite coconut product it would probably be the oil. I know it is all the rage right now but I think it deserves it. It makes everything taste amazing. I cook with it everyday and if you have never roasted vegetables in coconut oil, DO IT. I also use it as my face and body moisturizer and since I started I haven't used anything else. It makes my skin feel so soft and leaves me smelling like a beach in the best way. I'd also recommend you try that if you haven't yet.
Another good use for coconut oil jars? As water cups for painting. Or to hold pens and paint brushes. I also use their lids to mix paint on. I had to find some uses for all of my empty jars so naturally I decided to fill them with some of my favorite things.
Another place I visited this week was a local thrift store. I really like thrifting. Digging through unwanted things can be exhausting so you definitely have to be in the right mood for that kind of shopping, but when you find something awesome for an even more awesome price it makes it so worth it. This time around was a pretty successful trip. I found a new purse, ankle boots, earrings, and a book by one of my favorite authors for under $15. Yes, the shoes might be a half size too small, but for $3 I couldn't just pass them up and don't you worry, I'll make them work. Side note, the book is Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk and you should definitely read it. If you like weird books and a totally original style of writing check out his books. I love him.
After my thrifting escapade I walked over to a farmer's market that was happening in the parking lot next door to the thrift store. I picked up some beets, zucchini and onions which you can bet will be roasted with the above coconut oil. Just another little highlight of the week.
If you read my post yesterday, you would know I also spent a lot of time this week painting. One night was spent painting at Courtney's sitting in her ridiculously comfortable chair. It's called a snuggie which always reminds me of the blankets with sleeves that used to be on infomercials all the time. Just so you know I used to have a zebra print snuggie and besides the fact that it made me look like I was wearing a wizard robe it was pretty awesome. Super cozy.
The sad thing that you don't see in the painting action shot is the fact that Courtney was packing up all her things while I painted. It is just crazy how fast the month of August went by, but it did, which means Courtney moved to Chicago. I had to say goodbye to her the other night which was sad and I'll miss her a ton but it was awesome to have a month living in the same city again. Now that I think about it, that may be the last time we are ever living in the same city. That is a weird thought but I think it is exciting. Ideally I would like to be next door neighbors but since that might be unrealistic I will just be excited to visit her in the big city and explore wherever life takes us in the future.
I'll leave you with a dread selfie because last week I rocked a huge braid. If you see any cool styles that you think I should try with my hair I would love to see them. I like to attempt to recreate hairstyles that are done with normal hair and see how they look dreadlock style. I am no hairstylist so I'll be sure to show you (hopefully) more successes and inevitable failures.
