Hello, hello! Today marks two months since starting my Painting of the Week posts and that makes me really happy. It definitely has been a challenge to have a finished painting each week, some weeks more then others (ahem...last week), but overall I'm so happy I decided to do it. Each week I feel like I learn something new about my artistic self, things I like and dislike, ways I work best, learning to trust my instincts, etc. I hope you all have enjoyed reading these posts and seeing the pictures of my process. It really means a lot to me when I see people are reading. I don't think I've said that yet, but its true. So thank you to those of you that have been checking in on Mondays to see my latest painting, been reading the other posts, or have stopped by for the first time! I hope you stay a while.
Sorry guys, I had to be mushy and heart felt for a second. To branch off from that, I have to say that if you are one that checks in throughout the week or every Monday to see what I'm posting, I am taking a week off. Tomorrow (!!!!!!!!), I leave for my trip to Seattle/Portland so I won't be posting anything throughout the week. Seeing that I will be gone until Monday, I won't have a painting of the week for you next Monday either. I'm sorry, but not really. As much as I would like to grace your presence with a painting, I am completely okay with taking a week off from creating to explore some new places. If you miss me, you can check out my instagram which I am sure I will be posting snap shots. Otherwise, I will be back next week to give you a recap of my travels and you can count on me to get started on a new painting right away. Also, if anyone has been to Seattle or Portland, I am always open to suggestions of places to go or things I need to check out!
So this week's painting is kind of exciting because it was my second custom piece. The first was the sign I made for my coming niece. This one was made for a newlywed couple. Very different. The story is, my friend Katie had a family member getting married and asked me to create a painting that she and her boyfriend could give as their wedding gift. I think art given as gifts is awesome so I was super excited to create something for her that would be one of a kind.
Katie came over and she told me what size she wanted the painting to be and what she wanted it to say, which I think is a really adorable phrase for newlyweds. She gave me a lot of artistic freedom which was really nice but she did give me some direction for the design. She had taken a look at their wedding registry and wanted a painting that would go with the bedding that they wanted. I looked it up online, (unfortunately it wasn't in stores) and let my design inspiration stem from there.
I tried my best to create something one of a kind but also cohesive with the space they were hoping to create in their bedroom. I did my best with choosing colors that would compliment the bedding without being able to see it in person. I really hope the newlyweds love their new piece of art because I really enjoyed making it for them!
Like usual, I would love to hear any thoughts you have or just say hello! I hope you all have a lovely week. Spend some time doing something you really enjoy and we can swap stories when I get back! See you in a week!
