Happy Monday!! Can you believe it is already Thanksgiving week? I know everyone says it every year, but the holiday season really sneaks up fast. I just realized that this is the first time I will be living at home for the holidays in the past 5 years. Gotta admit, it feels pretty nice that I'll get to soak up a lot of family time this year rather then it being a short visit before I go back to school. You can probably expect a nice mushy post about how thankful I'm feeling this year. The birth of my niece Stella and my extra time with family before I move across the country are definitely two huge things making my heart happy.
Anyways, I'll save the mushy writing for that future post and just get on with talking about this week's painting! As per usual, this one was fun to make. It involved the use of my ruler quite a bit. Enough that my ruler and I might be going on a break for a little bit. If I'm being honest though, I doubt that will happen. I seem to like clean lines and symmetry too much to ever completely lose the ruler.
As you can see in the pictures, this one started out with an idea and the details were filled in from there. I really love working that way. Just getting small bits of inspiration as I go and slowly seeing the painting come to life. I'm also still really attracted to gold. Honestly, I probably always will be. The subtle shimmer and the way it reflects light just really hits the spot for me.
Inspiration for this piece definitely came from Navajo blankets/patterns. The symmetry, patterns, repetition, shapes, these are the things I am always attracted to and it was no different when viewing this style of art. The color scheme was inspired by the use of gold and some natural tones, warmth, and partially by Painting of the Week #13.
I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I enjoyed creating it! I think it was definitely worth taking some extra time to add in all of the details. Hopefully I see you again soon, but if not before Thursday, I hope you all have a lovely and wonderful Thanksgiving with everyone you love!
