Hello! I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. I won't bore you with any explanation about mine because all I did was work, relax and take long walks outside. The weather here in Wisconsin was pretty beautiful and I'm trying to soak up as much of the sunshine as I can before winter. My time spent inside was usually under a blanket, or in my leopard print robe (one of my prized possessions) painting and sipping tea. It was cozy and cozy is the best.
So I hope you had a really cozy/relaxing/sunshine filled weekend too.
This week I finished another painting using gouache. I'm still loving the fluidity of the material, as well as the variation you get from the way the paint dries. If I didn't add as much water it would be much more opaque and I could get solid, consistent color, but I'm really enjoying experimenting with the outcomes.
For this painting I started with border and eventually filled in the center. I used my ruler a lot and ended up creating a very geometric pattern. It wasn't necessarily planned but thats how it ended up and I'm not mad about it.
I was definitely thinking fall while picking out the color scheme and I'm a little afraid I went overboard with color. I seem to have a fear of leaving any white space when I paint (unless I'm painting on wood!) and I think I need to get over that. I do like how this painting turned out, but sometimes when I look at the previous pictures I second guess my decision making. I definitely appreciate how the painting looked before everything was filled in with color but something about it just didn't look finished to me. I would love to hear your opinions on these thoughts!
I really love working with patterns and hope to eventually create some that would translate well being printed onto products. Has anyone ever heard of Society6? It is a pretty awesome website that allows artists to sell prints of their work as well as get it printed onto a large variety of products. Which is awesome for you because you can get some really unique items. I've been thinking I would like to start my own little "shop" on there sometime soon and would love your feedback on that possibility! I'd really love to know if anyone would have an interest in certain products or if there are designs of mine that you're particularly fond of!
So that's all I have for you this week. I bought myself some actual water color paper this weekend and I'm anxious to start painting on it. I'm hoping it will create a better outcome with my gouache paintings so most likely next week I'll post results from that. As usual, thanks for stopping by and taking an interest in my work, it makes me a happy girl!
